T he Iron Horse Inn is a affordable and family-friendly motel located off the scenic Million Dollar Highway, on the north end of Durango. Nestled in the beautiful Animas Valley, between the steep cliffs of Missionary Ridge, the clear waters of the Animas River, and the red rocks of Animas Mountain, we provide a quiet and relaxing stay for the outdoor adventurer, traveling businessmen, or any family outing alike.
Our motel location puts us in close proximity to Fort Lewis College, The Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Dalton Ranch Golf Club, Trimble Hot Springs, and we are just 30 minutes from the ski slopes at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort. Other local attractions include Mesa Verde National Park, white water rafting, and countless opportunities for outdoor expeditions and downtown adventures. The Main Avenue Trolley, a free service of Durango, provides a convenient and relaxing ride directly from our motel to historic downtown Durango every twenty minutes and stops at designated areas along Durango’s Main Avenue throughout the ride.
The Iron Horse Inn also welcomes you to swim in our new outdoor heated pool and let your little ones play in our expansive kiddie pool. Watch the historic train pass by in the beautiful Animas Valley, or have a family cookout in our outdoor party tent. Take a walk with the kids or run the dogs on the 7+ acres of open space that we have surrounding the Iron Horse Inn. Continue to relax while your children enjoy the newly installed crown jewel of the Rainbow® Play System family, featuring a large curvy slide, tire swing, swing set and climbing wall. Play a game of Air Hockey or other arcade games in our game room while doing a quick load of laundry.

We have 6 kids and needed 2 rooms. The front office staff was very helpful in getting rooms booked together and making us feel welcome. This place is a great value. The rooms were CLEAN. It’s a great place to stay in Durango if you are riding the Train.
